How do I become a member?

How do I become a Professor of the Academy?

  • When completing the enrollment form, click the option “I am in … the Professor of the Academy,” describe the type of collaboration you are interested in either on the form or if you are already a member, email your interest to emeritiacademy@berkeley.edu(link sends e-mail).
  • The Academy serves as the facilitator for a project.
  • Emeriti will also be able to search a member list to contact others directly.

Can I receive support for an independent Project?

To the extent that your project is collaborative, then yes.

What is the difference between the Professor of the Academy and the Professor of the Graduate School?

  • You can be both, the Professor of the Academy and the Professor of the Graduate School. The former depends on your participation in a collaborative effort and is independent of your status as Professor of the Graduate School.
  • Emeriti will be honored as Professor of the Academy if they participate in a collaborative project in the Academy.

What is the difference between the UC Berkeley Emeriti Association and the UC Berkeley Emeriti Academy?

The UC Berkeley Emeriti Association and the UC Berkeley Emeriti Academy are independent but both work to enrich the Emeriti experience in different ways.  All Emeriti are automatic members of the UC Berkeley Emeriti Association -- there are no membership dues.  To be a member of the UC Berkeley Emeriti Academy, you are invited to fill out a simple form.  The UC Berkeley Emeriti Association has been around for forty years -- the UC Berkeley Emeriti Academy is brand new.  The UC Berkeley Emeriti Association does advocacy for its members, provides an administrative voice to our campus, as well as provides a range of social events.  The UC Berkeley Emeriti Academy facilitates academic and professional collaborative pursuits among emeriti.
