In addition to Professor Emerita in Integrative Biology, Carole Hickman is also a Professor of Paleontology, Professor of the Graduate School in Integrative Biology and Curator Emerita, UC Museum of Paleontology.
My primary research and teaching interests have always come together to explore and explain how materials and development interact with function and geologic history to build the diverse and beautiful skeletons of living and fossil marine organisms. Retirement expands this curiosity and enables completion of large monographic treatments of marine organisms 40 million years ago during an episode of dramatic global change. It also provides opportunities to interact with a greater diversity of academic colleagues and students at Berkeley and worldwide.
