Bio/CV: 

Professor emeritus July 2020. My background is in entomology and botany. I received all my degrees from UCB. I taught in the Dept. of ESPM for 4 decades with a focus on environmental problem-solving. I also teach entomology to a variety of audiences outside of UCB. I have a special interest in sharing knowledge from active research to the lay public, and especially to agricultural communities, school kids and teachers, and to interested NGOs. I also do research and outreach in Costa Rica, Central America

Research interests: 

Currently, I am researching pollinators of avocado flowers in SoCal. I also manage a collection of 120K bee specimens from CA and Costa Rica that is being prepared for deposition in the UCB Essig Museum of Entomology. Together with 7 colleagues I am working on two bees books; one in Spanish and one in English on the common bees of Costa Rican gardens.
