Professor Botchan's faculty page
I will be continuing my research and UCB lab work funded by NIH. This research focus concerns the replication of chromosomes, with biochemical, genetics and structural biology approaches. I will also be called back to work with our Innovative Genome Institute to be an advisor on academic planning and genome editing. This work will include involvement with faculty recruitment and evaluations along with the building of a new IGI facility. As a UCB Dean I helped establish the first STEM honors program for promotion of undergraduates devoted to research with an emphasis on DE&I. The program is called SEED for Stem Excellence through Equity and Diversity. High school students are recruited to Cal with a pre-commitment to apply for graduate school. I will maintain an advisory role with SEED faculty and staff to help with philanthropic work and recruitment of students.
